I guess first off I should introduce ourselves. Robert and I have been married for nearly 2 months! We were married in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple on July 13, 2012.
This is probably my favorite picture from that day.
Anyways Robert is from Magna Utah. He went to Moscow Russia on his mission and is currently going to school for pre dental, and working as a baker at the Old Grist Mill.
So I thought it would be kinda fun to go back to the very beginning. Many of my friends and family don't really know how we met or even started dating and it is a pretty good story. Chalked full of your daily dose of awkwardness.
and so I did the only thing I knew how, I put on a show. Telling them all of my hilarious stories about my life, all of my awkward moments (there have been many) and what can I say I was a big ball of charisma. They ended up staying for at least an hour maybe longer and after that we were all good friends.
Funny side story, about a week after Rob and I met, I was sitting in my office and my lovely friend Lauren turns around to me and says "Hannah you know who you should love?" I answered with an "uh no..." "Robert Andersen" to which I laughed for about a solid 5 minutes "why??" "I just think you're both just so.... awkward, like your awkwardness would just compliment each other." Huh thanks Lauren for that nugget of wisdom. I was so offended! Anyways back to our awkward journey.
Soon afterwards it seemed like we did everything together, Alyssa and I were always over at their apartment or they were at ours making meals together, going to the store together, and we talked all the time. Over Thanksgiving break Ricky and Robert were texting the both of us non stop. As they were both texting both of us non stop I didn't think anything of it. I thought how nice we are all great friends. Oh no, the night we got back they invited us over to their apartment to watch 17 miracles with them. I showed up and there were about 15 people sitting on the floor sobbing, I don't do well with emotional movies, so I sat there awkwardly for the last 15 minutes of the movie. Slowly people began to leave and soon it was just me, Alyssa, Lauren, Ricky, and Robert. They invited us to join them for pie. Well who was I to turn down pie? Soon afterwards Lauren left and it was just the 4 of us. As we prepared to leave Ricky runs back in his room and yells for us to wait. He comes out with a stack of papers in his hand, he promptly handed Robert 2 of them. Then Ricky goes up to Alyssa and says "Hey we got these tickets for the Forgotten carols on Wednesday, would you go with me?" to which Robert responded by silently handing me the ticket. When Ricky yells "don't give it to her she will go without you!" so he silently and awkwardly took it back... That's right folks Robert asked me out on our first date without saying a single word. He swears he said something, but no one else in the room heard it, so he either didn't say anything, or he said it in a pitch that only dogs could hear. Fortunately he found his voice by the time we went on our date, and we had a really good time. After that he just kept showing up, after his roommate got married and moved out Robert came over to my apartment to use our microwave... and ended up staying for almost 2 hours. After that we were pretty much inseparable.
Here is our first picture together as a new couple. Note the awkward hand hold.. and the fact that Robert looks like he is about to burst with joy.
Now our first kiss was probably the peak of our awkwardness. Robert had come over to help me cut out decorations for our Christmas tree that Alyssa had cut out. She came home with an entire pie tin full of treats she had made and so I told Robert if he could eat all of it then I would give him a surprise. I didnt think he would be able to finish it, for those of you who have not met Robert, he is a bean pole. Well with some steel hard determination and a little assistance he did. I started panicking at this point because I had no surprise to give, and I figured I knew what he would want. So that night as he was getting ready to leave I gave him a quick hug and sent him on his way surprise-less, hoping by morning he would have forgotten the whole thing. He asked me if he could take me up to school in the morning and then after taking me up there asked if he could walk me home after work. (Persistent much??) Anyways so he walked me home, we sat on my couch not saying much before he uttered the words I had been dreading for the last 18 hours. "So uh... you still owe me a surprise." I thought perfect I am going to make him ask for it. "Well what do you want?" His face went white as a sheet at this point as he hemmed and hawed for a moment before whispering "a kiss?" Instantly I said Okay, and then he looked like he was going to be sick. I asked him if he had ever kissed a girl before which he replied with a terrified head shake. So I just went for it, it was the most glorious sixteenth of a second ever. Yes it really was that short. Immediately afterwards he asked "how was it?" Trying not to laugh and embarrass him further I lied to him and told him it was great. To which he replied "well I guess I have kissed my mom before, but my dad would get mad at me." Nice.... cool under pressure there Rob. Thats just what every girl dreams of hearing after she kisses a boy.
Somehow we managed to get past that little ditty, and on April 26th he asked me to marry him. He took me out to dinner to la tormenta which was delicious, and then said we were going to go back to my apartment and watch a movie. I was so bummed because I was convinced that he was going to ask me! So we got back to my apartment and he said he bought me some of my favorite ice cream and had to go run and grab it from his apartment. Alyssa told me I got some mail and she had put it on my bed, so I wandered in there and found my bed covered with rose petals and there was a clue
This clue took me to where we had our first date, his little sister Britni was there with my second clue which led me to walmart, where his twin brother Chris and his fiancee Katherine were waiting on the ice cream isle. Their clue led me to the temple grounds where Ricky was there with my last clue, which led me up to this spot that over looked the entire valley. Now mind you it was POURING rain, and pitch black I couldn't see anything. So I am calling Robert because I'm lost and couldn't find him anywhere, and when I finally pulled over I was about 20 feet away from him. I approached him and he got down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him, and the rest is history.
